How to Size & Select a Marine Globe Valve: Cv, Pressure & DN

Correct sizing prevents cavitation, leakage, and system failure.
Step 1: Determine Key Parameters
Media: Seawater, fuel oil, steam, etc.
DN (Nominal Diameter): Pipe size (e.g., DN50, DN80).
PN (Pressure Rating): 1.0–6.4 MPa (150–900 Class).
Temperature: −20°C to 450°C.
Flow Rate (m³/h) & ΔP (Pressure Drop).
Step 2: Calculate Cv (Flow Coefficient)Cv = Flow (gpm) × √(SG / ΔP (psi))
Select a valve with Cv ≥ calculated Cv for optimal flow.
Step 3: Choose Design Type
Straight Pattern: General service, inline flow.
Angle Pattern: Compact, for tight spaces.
Y‑Pattern: Low pressure drop, ideal for high‑pressure steam.
SDNR (Screw‑Down Non‑Return): Prevents backflow; critical for pumps/boilers.
