Why Marine Butterfly Valves Are Replacing Traditional Marine Valves Gradually
In recent years, marine butterfly valves have gradually replaced traditional globe valves and gate valves and become the mainstream choice for ship piping systems. The core reason lies in their comprehensive advantages in structure, cost and actual operation—especially the marine high-pressure butterfly valve, which breaks through the limitations of traditional valves in high-pressure marine scenarios.

First of all, marine butterfly valves have a more compact and lightweight design. Ships have extremely strict requirements on space and load-bearing capacity. The small-size and light-weight butterfly valve can effectively save cabin space and reduce the dead weight of the ship, which is conducive to navigation energy conservation. Compared with traditional valves, the marine low-flow-resistance butterfly valve has lower flow resistance, reducing energy consumption of pipeline transportation and improving overall operational efficiency.

Secondly, the operation is more flexible and efficient. The 90° rotary switch design realizes quick opening and closing, which is more suitable for emergency cut-off of marine pipelines. Traditional valves need multiple rotations to complete switching, which is inefficient in emergency scenarios. In terms of cost, standardized production of marine standard butterfly valve reduces manufacturing and procurement costs. Meanwhile, the simple internal structure is not easy to accumulate dirt and marine attachments, bringing lower maintenance difficulty and longer maintenance cycles. With the upgrading of shipbuilding standards and the popularization of automated shipping equipment, high-performance marine butterfly valves will gain wider application in the global marine supporting industry.
